Nights ‘n’ Noblemen

Nights and Noblemen was Wallace Games’ first project. The game was started as a response to the change of the OGL of DND in 2023.

The game focuses on two major things that could be improved in Dungeons and Dragons, in our opinon.

✨✨ D O W N T I M E ✨✨

Dungeons and Dragons does have a downtime mechanic but it is lacking. Any player who has played a long term campaign has the same eery moment whenever asked how long the game has been running. The real life length of the game may exceed 3 years, while the in game time may only be a couple of days.

This discrepancy can make the mustering of armies, the fortifying of towns, the change of political system, feel wrong and lose emersion.

Taking inspiration from The Burning Wheel Nights n Noblemen encourages players to let their characters to rest, to recover properly, but also to level up. With rest actions players can make meaningful impact on their worlds, creating a bond with NPCs and building communities in their downtime.

Fundamentally it is not the belief of Wallace Games to force a setting upon the players. In many TTRPGs setting is part of the fabric of the game, however in Nights ‘n’ Noblemen this is not the case.

The closest we go to informing the setting is through the creation of a magic system, though the flavour of this is entirely up to the game runner. All that is needed is that there is a financial cost to cast magic, it is intricate and cannot be done during combat, and that it can be triggered accidentally in close hand to hand combat.

Inspired by the excellent world building in Book of Travels this is facilitated by the tying of ropes, however it need knot take this form in your game.

Without the high fantasy casting of spells in Dungeons and Dragons it is our hope that complex stories can more easily be told in grounded worlds with clear and emphasis on tangible, understandable progression.

Currently Nights ‘n’ Noblemen is on ice. It is an exciting idea but the market for new TTRPGs is completely saturated and Nights ‘n’ Noblemen is not significantly different from other things emerging onto the market.

Finishing the creation of the rulebook, currently requires a lot of work to flesh out abilities and features of characters, ensuring balance while also being fun. Currently Wallace Games does not have the capacity to pursue this and Bartizan, so a decision was made to change focus.

In the future Nights ‘n’ Nobleman my become a fully fledged TTRPG but a lot of work will be needed to make engaging artwork, make an initial adventure and set it a part from Dungeon and Dragon, Pathfinder, Monster of the Week, Burning Wheel, and so many other excellent games.
